Cullera .(20 minutes from our home) is a backdrop for both beaches and mountains, scuba diving and sailing, fishing and hiking and ancient monuments. There are various fresh water lagoons and over 15 kilometres of spectacular beaches and cliffs. By following the coast road towards Valencia there is the El Saler Parador and Golf course, rated amongst the best in Spain and Europe stretching over 6,355 metres, with 18 holes, par 72 and SS-73, 91 bunkers and large difficult greens, all flanked by sand dunes and sea breezes. 1 Kilometre further along this road brings you to the Albufera Lagoon and Nature Park, here you can hire a motorised boat and see the amazing variety of birds and water fowl (250 species have been identified). The fresh water Lagoon is 6 kilometres in diameter, with the centre being called the `llunet´ meaning that which shines most. Rice and fish form the basis of the gastronomic delights in this area. In Cullera, traditional Valencian cuisine can be tasted: arròs negre (with squid), arròs a banda (rice in fish stock), paella, arròs amb fessols y naps (with turnips and beans). In Gandia fiduà (noodle paella) is the speciality. In Oliva, coquetes a la calfó (pizza like pastries with toppings) pebreres farcides (stuffed peppers) and figatells (meatballs).
